Kenya is taking bold steps to enhance chemical safety and security, focusing on preventing dangerous substances from falling into the wrong hands.

At a workshop in Nairobi, experts from around the world gathered to discuss strategies for better management of dual-use chemicals substances essential for industries but with the potential for weaponization. 

Participants from Brazil, Germany, Nigeria, the UK, and South Africa collaborated on new guidelines to tighten regulations on the production, transportation, and storage of these chemicals.

Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo emphasized Kenya’s commitment to ensuring strict oversight and control measures. He highlighted the importance of strong border security, modern technology, and proper management systems in preventing illegal trade and misuse.

Kenya continues to work closely with international partners, including the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), to improve chemical safety protocols and curb the risk of dangerous substances being used for harmful purposes.
