According to Taiwo Kola-Ogunlade, Communications and Public Affairs Manager at Google West Africa, the widespread adoption of Google Maps in Nigeria has significantly impacted navigation and local discovery. “As Google Maps continues to evolve, its impact on navigation, exploration, and community engagement will only continue to grow,” he stated.

Beyond helping users find their way, the platform has boosted visibility for businesses and tourist attractions, allowing them to reach wider audiences. From bustling restaurants like Mega Chicken and Farmcity Lekki to serene parks such as City Park Abuja and Muri Okunola Park, Google Maps reviews influence where people choose to eat, relax, and explore.


Google’s anniversary announcement shed light on the locations that have generated the most engagement over the years. Restaurants Mega Chicken and Farmcity Lekki lead in popularity. Cafés Flowershop Café and Oliver’s Café top the list. Parks City Park Abuja and Muri Okunola Park in Lagos receive high engagement. Visitor Attractions Dimplediva Scent, Oniru Private Beach, and The Good Beach are favorites. Museums The National Museum Benin City, Kalakuta Museum, and Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library are among the most visited cultural sites.

Google Maps has provided directions for over one trillion kilometers globally, with Nigeria being a significant part of its success. Since introducing its Street View feature in 2017, which offers panoramic images of streets in Lagos, the platform has continued to evolve with real-time traffic updates, estimated fares, and weather information.
