Ethiopian Airlines, Africa’s leading carrier, recorded an 8% revenue increase to $7.6 billion for the financial year ending July 7, 2025, despite global economic slowdowns and regional conflicts, Group CEO Mesfin Tasew announced during a media briefing on Wednesday. The airline transported 19.1 million passengers, a testament to its resilience amid challenges in the Middle East, Ukraine, Sudan, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, as well as new U.S. regulations.

Tasew highlighted a 9% growth in Available Seat Kilometres and a 14% rise in Revenue Passenger Kilometres compared to the previous year, driven by robust demand. The airline expanded its global reach by launching six new international passenger routes and adding 13 new aircraft, including its fourth Airbus A350-1000, delivered on August 2. With a fleet exceeding 150 aircraft, Ethiopian Airlines plans to introduce 20 more in 2026 to accommodate growing passenger numbers, despite delays from manufacturers like Boeing.

In June, Tasew revealed plans to order at least 20 regional or small narrow-body jets to bolster the domestic fleet and replace aging aircraft, according to Reuters. The carrier’s strategic expansion aligns with its vision to maintain profitability and connectivity across Africa and beyond.
