Boeing, the U.S. aerospace giant, has inaugurated a new office in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, establishing it as the company’s administrative hub for operations across Africa. The move underscores Boeing’s commitment to expanding its footprint in the continent’s rapidly growing aviation sector.
“This office will allow us to work closely with our more than 60 customers on the continent, forge strategic partnerships, enhance safety standards, and contribute to the ongoing efforts to expand Africa’s aviation industry,” said Kuljit Ghata-Aura, president of Boeing Middle East, Türkiye, Africa, and Central Asia.
The Addis Ababa office complements Boeing’s existing presence in Africa, including an office in Johannesburg, South Africa, and field service representatives in Algeria, Egypt, Ethiopia, Kenya, Morocco, South Africa, Tanzania, and Togo. “Africa is among the most promising markets in terms of economic and business growth,” said Henok Teferra Shawl, Boeing Africa MD and head of the Addis Ababa office. “Being closer to our customers, government stakeholders, and suppliers will enable us to develop solutions that best address the needs of Africa’s aviation sector.”
Boeing has been a key player in African aviation for over 75 years, investing in talent development, innovation, and industrial growth. The company has partnerships worth $40 million with suppliers in Ethiopia, Morocco, and South Africa and has invested $22 million since 2008 in educational and economic empowerment initiatives with universities and non-profit organizations across the continent.
As the leading supplier of airliners and cargo aircraft to African carriers, Boeing collaborates with the International Civil Aviation Organization and the Africa Airlines Association to modernize fleets, align aviation regulations, and enhance safety and operational efficiency through training and digital tools. The company also supports free trade and market liberalization to foster the continent’s aviation growth.
