The United States has extended its congratulations to Zimbabwe on the occasion of its 45th Independence Day, reaffirming its commitment to deepening bilateral relations grounded in shared democratic values.

In a statement released on Friday, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio commended the people of Zimbabwe for their enduring spirit and achievements since gaining independence from Britain on April 18, 1980. He emphasized the importance of democratic institutions and the rule of law as cornerstones for mutual prosperity.

“We look forward to reinforcing our business and commercial ties, supported by our countries’ democratic institutions,” Rubio stated. “Through rule of law and respect for our fundamental freedoms, we can create better opportunities for our peoples to prosper.”

The US message aligns with Zimbabwe's national theme for this year's celebrations: “Zim@45: Devolve and Develop Together Towards Vision 2030,” highlighting the country's focus on inclusive development and devolution. The main commemorations are taking place in Gokwe, Midlands Province, with over 60,000 attendees expected.

This gesture from Washington underscores a continued interest in fostering a partnership that supports democratic governance and economic collaboration between the two nations.
