The Government of Rwanda, in collaboration with China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC), will introduce Africa’s first pilotless electric air taxi at the Aviation Africa 2025 Summit, scheduled for September 4–5 in Kigali.

The demonstration flight will feature the EH216-S, an electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft developed by global urban air mobility pioneer, EHang. The aircraft, designed for passenger transport without a pilot on board, is expected to transform the way African cities approach mobility, connectivity, and sustainable transport.

According to Rwanda’s Ministry of Infrastructure, the event will not only showcase futuristic aviation technology but also serve as a real-time case study for regulators, investors, and technology partners across Africa.

Minister of Infrastructure, Jimmy Gasore, emphasized that Rwanda is committed to building smarter, more connected cities through innovative transport systems. “By collaborating on this historic flight, we are not only showcasing the future of aviation but also demonstrating our dedication to fostering a safe, progressive regulatory environment for advanced air mobility," he said.

CRBC’s Rwanda Office Director General, Huang Qilin, described the partnership as a breakthrough for Africa’s aviation future. “This collaboration is a testament to our commitment to bringing cutting-edge solutions to Africa,” he stated.

Rwanda has already earned international recognition for pioneering drone delivery services. With the pilotless air taxi demonstration, Kigali is now positioning itself as the continent’s testbed for next-generation aviation solutions.
