Nigeria’s Super Eagles are assembling a formidable squad in Uyo as preparations intensify for their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying double-header against Rwanda and South Africa.

With the stakes higher than ever, Captain William Ekong has already set the tone, arriving early to inspire his teammates. The Saudi Arabia-based defender was joined by goalkeeper Amas Obasogie and defenders Bruno Onyemaechi and Felix Agu, with Agu looking to build on his standout performance at the Unity Cup Tournament in London earlier this year.

Paris FC forward Moses Simon, fresh from scoring and assisting in his club’s weekend league win, has also checked in. Greece-based goalkeeper Adeleye Adebayo, alongside defenders Chidozie Awaziem and Benjamin Fredericks, plus midfield anchors Wilfred Ndidi, Frank Onyeka, and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, have added strength to the camp.

The arrival of Premier League stars Olaoluwa Aina, Bright Osayi-Samuel, Calvin Bassey, and Fulham’s new signing Alex Iwobi has further lifted spirits. At the same time, first-choice shot-stopper Stanley Nwabali, back in action after an injury scare, was due in by Tuesday night.

The team still awaits key arrivals, including Crystal Palace’s deadline-day recruit Christantus Uche, Fulham winger Samuel Chukwueze, Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Tolu Arokodare, Panathinaikos forward Cyriel Dessers, and Napoli’s lethal hitman Victor Osimhen. African Player of the Year Ademola Lookman and Galatasaray midfielder Raphael Onyedika are also on the list of latecomers.

Coach José Peseiro is expected to have a full complement of 23 players before the weekend as Nigeria looks to extend its unbeaten run in the qualifiers. After tackling Rwanda in Uyo on Saturday, the Eagles will immediately shift focus to Tuesday’s crunch clash against South Africa at the Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein.

With firepower spread across Europe’s top leagues and the camp already bubbling with competition, the Super Eagles appear poised to make a statement on the road to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
