In a bid to accelerate Nigeria’s digital transformation, the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has formalized a strategic partnership with Flutterwave and Alami, focusing on fintech innovation, digital skills development, and open-source technology adoption.

The agreement, sealed through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), marks a pivotal step in strengthening public-private collaborations aimed at reshaping Nigeria’s financial technology landscape.

The MoU was signed by NITDA’s Director-General Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, Flutterwave CEO Olugbenga Agboola, and Alami CEO Ms. Olu White, reinforcing the collective commitment to fostering a digitally inclusive economy.

According to NITDA, the collaboration is structured around key initiatives designed to promote financial technology growth, enhance digital literacy, and expand digital payment infrastructure. The partnership will align with NITDA’s Strategic Roadmap and Action Plan (SRAP 2.0), a framework guiding Nigeria’s digital economy development.

“This partnership is a vital step towards achieving shared goals for digital transformation in the country, showcasing the commitment to the betterment of Nigeria in line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda,” NITDA said.

One of the partnership's major highlights is its role in advancing digital literacy and entrepreneurship, particularly for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and startups.

Financial technology is playing an increasingly critical role in economic development. NITDA’s engagement with Flutterwave and Alami seeks to equip businesses with the digital tools needed to thrive in an evolving financial ecosystem.

In addition, the collaboration will support the upcoming Digital Nigeria Week 2025, an event set to showcase fintech innovations, facilitate industry discussions, and create networking opportunities for stakeholders within the technology ecosystem.

Beyond fintech, NITDA has been actively working to drive digital skills development nationwide. In a separate initiative, the Agency recently partnered with the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to train 30 million Nigerians in digital skills.

This initiative, facilitated by the Minister of State for Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, is expected to cultivate a new wave of tech talent and ensure broader participation in Nigeria’s digital economy.

By leveraging the strengths of Flutterwave, a leading African payments technology company, and Alami, a key player in the fintech space, NITDA aims to create a resilient digital economy that fosters innovation, entrepreneurship, and sustainable growth.
