The Nigeria-South Africa Chamber of Commerce (NSACC) has shifted focus toward youth empowerment and small-and medium-scale enterprises (SMEs), positioning them as the next drivers of bilateral trade growth between Africa’s two largest economies.

At its monthly breakfast session in Lagos, NSACC Chairman, Mrs. Ije Jidenma, explained that the Chamber is building on 25 years of foundation work by creating new pathways for SMEs and young entrepreneurs to harness the digital economy and unlock fresh trade opportunities.

“Our mission is to elevate our membership, particularly by creating opportunities for SMEs and engaging young people in the digital economy,” Jidenma stated.

Echoing this vision, NSACC Director Felicia Phillips stressed the importance of the media in reshaping perceptions between both nations. She noted that constructive journalism can break stereotypes and foster mutual trust, laying the groundwork for deeper commercial partnerships.

The Chamber also called for more proactive government action to actualize over 40 bilateral agreements that remain underutilized. Immediate past Chairman Osayaba Giwa-Osagie emphasized that these agreements must move beyond paper commitments to deliver measurable benefits for businesses.

Beyond trade, the session spotlighted exchange programmes for students, professionals, and media practitioners, describing them as vital in building cultural bridges, inspiring innovation, and sustaining long-term Nigeria-South Africa relations.
