MoU signing between Lagos State government and Summa Group for Lekki-Epe International Airport construction.
In a major step toward enhancing infrastructure and boosting economic development, the Lagos State government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Summa Group, a globally recognized construction company, for the development and construction of the much-anticipated Lekki-Epe International Airport.
The announcement was made by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu via his official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Saturday. According to the governor, the new airport will significantly improve travel, open up economic opportunities, and position Lagos as a key hub for both local and international investments.
Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized that the construction of the Lekki-Epe International Airport is a strategic initiative aimed at enhancing connectivity within Lagos and beyond. The airport is expected to ease travel for millions of people, providing a modern gateway for business executives, tourists, and investors looking to explore Nigeria’s economic hub.
“This groundbreaking initiative is an essential part of our vision to improve connectivity in Lagos, stimulate economic growth, and attract global investments,” the governor stated.
By reducing travel congestion at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Ikeja, the Lekki-Epe International Airport is set to become a game-changer for aviation and commerce in Lagos, particularly in the rapidly developing Lekki Free Trade Zone and the Epecorridor.
The airport project is expected to stimulate job creation, attract foreign direct investments (FDIs), and facilitate business expansion in Lagos. As one of Africa’s fastest-growing megacities, Lagos is already a major economic hub, and this new airport will further strengthen its position on the global stage.
Reaffirming Lagos’ commitment to world-class infrastructure, Governor Sanwo-Olu noted that the state remains a trailblazer in driving economic and infrastructural progress.
“The Lekki-Epe International Airport will facilitate travel and create new opportunities for businesses and residents throughout the state. Lagos leads, always,” he said.
With this agreement in place, the project is expected to move into its implementation phase, marking another milestone in Lagos’ urban transformation journey. Residents, businesses, and investors are now eagerly looking forward to further updates on the project’s timeline and development plans.
