Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) Chief Executive Officer June Chepkemei has been recognized as one of Africa’s 50 Most Influential CEOs for 2025, a testament to her visionary leadership in transforming Kenya’s tourism sector.

Chepkemei’s strategic approach to tourism marketing, sustainability, and diversification has set her apart in an industry that plays a critical role in Kenya’s economy. Since taking the helm at KTB less than a year ago, she has championed innovative campaigns that have positioned Kenya as a must-visit destination, expanded the country’s global reach, and strengthened partnerships with key stakeholders.

“It is an honor to be named among Africa’s most influential CEOs. This is a testament to the collective efforts of our team at KTB to position Kenya as a top travel destination.” Chepkemei said. “Moving forward, I remain committed to working with all stakeholders to enhance Kenya’s tourism sector, improve competitiveness, and create more opportunities for local communities”.

One of her standout initiatives is the Ziara Kenya: One Diaspora, One Tourist campaign, which encourages Kenyans abroad to promote and participate in domestic tourism. Additionally, she has prioritized adventure tourism, backing the formation of the Kenya Adventure Tourism Product Club to market Kenya’s diverse adventure experiences globally.

With a strong background in investment promotion, marketing, and communications, Chepkemei previously served as Managing Director at the Kenya Investment Authority and held key leadership roles at Konza Technopolis Development Authority and Safaricom Ltd. She holds a Master’s in Communication Studies from Moi University, a Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing from the Chartered Institute of Marketing (UK), and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Information Science.

Her inclusion in Africapitol Ventures’ annual list of top CEOs adds to a growing list of accolades, including Top 25 Women in Digital (2021) and Top 40 Under 40 Women in Kenya (2023). As she continues to steer KTB, her impact on Kenya’s tourism sector is set to grow, reinforcing the country’s position as a premier travel destination in Africa.
