Guinea has taken a bold step toward youth empowerment and economic development by officially validating its National Strategy for Quality Apprenticeships, the International Labour Organization (ILO) announced.

The strategy, developed in collaboration with the ILO and the European Union, aims to strengthen the country’s apprenticeship system by equipping young Guineans with market-relevant skills that foster economic resilience and sustainable employment. Unveiled at a workshop in Conakry, the initiative aligns with Guinea’s broader economic and social development goals, emphasizing structured, inclusive, and high-quality apprenticeship opportunities.

A central focus of the strategy is to address critical challenges such as informal training practices and limited access to quality opportunities, especially for youth and women. It proposes a clear framework for training, certification, and mentorship that will help bridge the gap between education and employment.

“This is a pivotal moment for Guinea,” said Mamadou Oury Diallo, Minister of Technical Education and Vocational Training, during the validation event. “Quality apprenticeships will empower our youth, enhance employability, and contribute to economic resilience.”

The ILO emphasized that the new strategy will promote decent work, with collaborative efforts from stakeholders to ensure effective implementation across sectors such as agriculture, construction, and technology.

Supported by the EU-funded CLEAR Cotton project, the initiative also reflects Guinea’s commitment to aligning with international standards while addressing domestic development needs. The strategy is expected to open up new pathways for skill development, increase job creation, and strengthen Guinea’s workforce, positioning the country as a model for vocational training in West Africa.
