Dubai.jpg71.4 KB In a move aimed at enhancing accessibility and convenience for travelers, flydubai has partnered with Network International to introduce mobile money payment options in Kenya and Uganda. This initiative aligns with the increasing demand for digital payment solutions in East Africa, where mobile money services have transformed financial transactions.
Passengers booking flights on flydubai.com or through the airline’s mobile app can now pay using Mpesa, Airtel Money, and MTN Mobile Money. This eliminates the need for credit or debit cards, making travel more accessible to a wider customer base, including those who rely primarily on mobile financial services.
According to Sudhir Sreedharan, Divisional Senior Vice President of Commercial Operations (UAE, GCC, Africa, and the Indian Subcontinent) at flydubai, the airline has observed growing demand in East Africa, particularly after launching flights to Entebbe in 2014 and Mombasa in 2024. “We are pleased to have partnered with Network International and reaffirm our longstanding commitment to investing in the latest technologies and innovative solutions.” he stated.
Judy Waruiru, Regional Managing Director for East Africa Acquiring at Network International, emphasized that this collaboration highlights the strength of strategic partnerships in advancing localized digital payments. “This partnership marks a significant milestone in enhancing customer experience. With East Africa being a leader in mobile money adoption, integrating this payment option into an international airline underscores the power that strategic collaborations have in advancing localized digital payments.” she said.
This payment integration is expected to extend to more African markets, including Tanzania, in the near future. Network International, which operates in over 40 African countries, continues to support businesses with technology-driven payment solutions, ensuring secure and efficient transactions.
Flydubai, with its expanding network of over 130 destinations across 55 countries, remains focused on enhancing the travel experience. The airline’s modern fleet of Boeing 737 aircraft serves key regions across Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East, reinforcing its role in connecting emerging markets with global travel networks.
