Ethiopia is sharpening its focus on skills development and technical and vocational education and training (TVET) as a key strategy to modernize its economy and create sustainable job opportunities for its youth.
Speaking at a panel discussion and photo exhibition organized by the Ethiopian Press Agency under the theme “Skill for Ethiopia”, Labor and Skills Minister Muferihat Kamil underscored the crucial role of collective effort in achieving the country’s development goals.
She emphasized that Ethiopia’s progress will not come from external solutions but from a unified national commitment. “It is easy to talk about Ethiopia, but it needs unified hands to achieve what the country wants to achieve,” Muferihat stated, adding, “We don’t buy a nation, we rather build it.”
State Minister of Labor and Skills, Teshale Berecha, presented a paper outlining the government’s commitment to reforming policies that will strengthen the TVET sector.
He noted that Ethiopia aims to replicate the economic success of many Asian nations, where vocational education has played a crucial role in driving rapid development.
Teshale highlighted the government’s plan to empower the private sector and enhance public-private partnerships to accelerate this transformation. “With the right training and resources, young Ethiopians will be better equipped to meet the demands of an evolving job market, contributing to long-term national prosperity,” he said.
