Ethiopia and Israel are deepening their economic partnership, with a particular emphasis on energy, infrastructure, and investment opportunities.

The two nations are looking to expand their collaboration beyond political and security ties, focusing on sectors that promise long-term economic growth.

In a recent meeting, Ethiopia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gedion Timothewos, and Israel’s Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, Eli Cohen, explored ways to enhance cooperation in renewable energy, mining, and technology-driven infrastructure development.

Minister Cohen reaffirmed Israel’s commitment to supporting Ethiopia’s economic growth by encouraging Israeli businesses to invest in key sectors.

With Ethiopia’s ambitious economic reforms and vast renewable energy resources, both sides identified significant opportunities for Israeli companies to engage in power generation, transmission, and distribution. Ethiopia’s untapped mineral wealth and Israel’s expertise in mining technology also emerged as areas of potential investment.

Additionally, the ministers discussed Israel’s leadership in irrigation and agricultural technology, highlighting opportunities for collaboration in modernizing Ethiopia’s agricultural sector. Minister Cohen announced plans to lead a business delegation to Ethiopia soon, aiming to strengthen trade and investment ties.

This renewed focus on economic cooperation follows Minister Cohen’s earlier visit to Ethiopia in February 2025, where he engaged with officials on advancing partnerships in technology, agriculture, health, and innovation.

As both nations work towards stronger economic integration, Israeli enterprises are expected to play a growing role in Ethiopia’s development agenda.
