Ethiopia and Kenya are deepening their economic collaboration to unlock new trade and investment opportunities, with a focus on leveraging regional integration frameworks such as the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

Speaking at the Ethio-Kenya Business Conference in Addis Ababa, officials and business leaders from both nations emphasized the significance of stronger economic ties in fostering mutual growth.

The conference, organized by the Addis Ababa Chamber of Commerce and Sectoral Associations in collaboration with the Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM), aimed to enhance bilateral cooperation across key sectors, including agriculture, tourism, and finance.

Kenya’s Ambassador to Ethiopia, George Orina, highlighted the ongoing economic reforms in Ethiopia, particularly in the foreign exchange regime, as a major step toward improving the business climate.

“The Ethiopian market has undergone significant changes recently. The opportunities here are abundant,” he stated.

Tobias Alando, CEO of the Kenya Association of Manufacturers, underscored the importance of joint efforts in expanding trade beyond their borders.

“We can work jointly to even access other countries around us. So, this collaboration will benefit both countries.” he said.

On his part, Yohannes Fanta, Director-General at Ethiopia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reaffirmed the strong diplomatic and economic partnership between the two nations.

“Given the enormous potential offered by our two countries, there is a huge trade and investment opportunity for our people to cooperate and work closely.” he said.

The long-standing ties between Ethiopia and Kenya, dating back to the early 20th century, have laid a solid foundation for economic collaboration. As both nations continue to implement trade-friendly policies and strengthen institutional partnerships, business leaders are optimistic about the future of cross-border trade and investment.
