As Ghana gears up for the crucial FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar in March, the Black Stars have received a major boost with the arrival of their Technical Advisor, Winfried Schaeffer. His presence signals a renewed focus on tactical refinement and long-term strategic planning for Ghanaian football.

Schaeffer, a highly experienced German tactician, touched down in Accra on Monday night and was welcomed by Black Stars Assistant Coach, Desmond Ofei.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) appointed him in January to provide technical expertise and help shape the development of football in the country. His impressive coaching career includes leading Cameroon to victory in the 2002 Africa Cup of Nations, making him a valuable addition to Ghana’s quest for a World Cup spot.

“The German tactician was appointed in January to provide technical guidance and oversee the development of football in Ghana. His role also involves working closely with the Technical Directorate to develop and implement long-term strategic plans for the GFA,” a Ghana Football Association statement said.

With the qualifiers fast approaching, Schaeffer will work closely with the Black Stars’ technical team to fine-tune strategies and enhance the squad’s performance. His guidance will be crucial as Ghana looks to secure a place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, set to be hosted in the USA, Mexico, and Canada.

Meanwhile, Black Stars Management Committee Vice Chairman, Stephen Appiah, alongside GFA President, Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, paid a visit to injured Ghanaian defender Alidu Seidu at Rennes. Seidu, who has been sidelined since December following surgery, remains an important part of the national team setup.

The visit highlights the strong sense of camaraderie within the Ghanaian football fraternity. Appiah, a former Black Stars captain, shared words of encouragement with Seidu, reinforcing the support system that exists for players both on and off the field.

As the Black Stars intensify their preparations, the team remains focused on overcoming Chad and Madagascar to strengthen their World Cup qualification campaign.
