In a concerted effort to enhance security operations in Somalia, the African Union (AU) has convened a four-day Technical Working Session to refine the operational framework of the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM).
The session brings together key stakeholders, including the African Union Commission (AUC), the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS), Troop and Police Contributing Countries (T-PCC), AUSSOM leadership, and the United Nations Support Office in Somalia (UNSOS).
With Somalia facing persistent security threats, the working session is focused on strengthening AUSSOM’s ground, air, and police capabilities. Key discussions include troop and police deployment strategies, the role of strategic enablers, and finalizing Statements of Unit Requirements (SUR) to ensure that the mission is equipped to handle evolving security challenges effectively.
By fostering collaboration among AU member states and international partners, the session aims to enhance AUSSOM’s operational readiness. This initiative reflects a unified commitment to supporting Somalia’s stabilization efforts and ensuring a smooth transition as the mission gradually hands over security responsibilities to Somali forces.
