In a bold push to expand its international trade footprint, Iran is setting its sights on Algeria as a strategic springboard into the broader African and European markets. Saeed Zare’ Haghighi, head of Iran’s Trade Office in Algeria, made the case during a recent high-level conference focused on Algeria’s economic potential.

“We had a highly productive session today with strong interest from Iranian businesses in entering the Algerian market and launching trade operations,” Haghighi asserted. “As a member of the Arab League and a bridge to both Europe and Central Africa, Algeria offers multiple strategic advantages for deepening trade with Iran.”

The conference, attended by both Iranian and Algerian economic officials, highlighted the untapped opportunities in Algeria’s emerging market. Haghighi noted that Iranian trade offices, under the Trade Promotion Organization (TPO), are ramping up efforts to support companies looking to establish a presence in the country.

With Algeria increasingly investing in domestic development and signaling openness to international partnerships, Iranian companies see promising potential. Haghighi reported a surge of interest from Iran’s private sector in launching trade operations in Algeria, especially in the lead-up to a major trade exhibition in Algiers.

Set to host 176 companies from 32 countries, the upcoming exhibition is being hailed as a crucial platform for Iranian businesses to establish their footprint in the region. “This isn’t just a trade fair, it’s a gateway to long-term influence in a booming market,” Haghighi said.

Algeria’s position as a key energy supplier, providing about 20% of Europe’s oil and gas, has significantly boosted its revenues, creating an urgent need for reliable commercial partners. Algerian officials at the conference welcomed Iran’s interest and expressed readiness to support enhanced bilateral cooperation.

“This is an excellent time for Iranian businesses to access this large and growing market,” Haghighi concluded. “We have already informed relevant Iranian firms of the importance of attending this event, as it represents a valuable platform for building commercial presence in Algeria.”
