In a decisive step towards strengthening national cohesion President Felix Tshisekedi has announced plans to form a national unity government, reaffirming his commitment to rallying the nation in the face of security challenges in the eastern provinces.

As tensions rise due to ongoing rebel activity, the president has called on all Congolese to stand together to defend national sovereignty.

Addressing members of the ruling Sacred Union coalition, he emphasized the need for unity and focus, urging political leaders to set aside differences for the greater good.

“We must unite … let’s stand together to face the enemy,” Tshisekedi declared, underscoring his vision of a strong, united front against external threats.

Presidency spokesperson Tina Salama confirmed that Tshisekedi will form a new government, which will include a broader coalition to enhance national solidarity and strategic decision-making.

He said, "His management is one of the causes of the current crisis," said opposition figure Herve Diakiese, criticizing the move to form a unity government.

"Tshisekedi is more concerned with saving his power, whereas we are more concerned with saving the Congo, and this can be done with or without him."

This initiative comes as part of a renewed approach to reinforcing security and governance in the country.

The move signals a call for collective responsibility at a critical moment, offering an opportunity for political actors across the spectrum to contribute to lasting solutions.
