Kenya has taken a significant step toward enhancing fiscal governance and transparency through a newly signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the United Kingdom.

The agreement, witnessed by National Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi and UK High Commissioner Neil Wigan, will see the UK’s Overseas Development Institute (ODI) collaborate with the National Treasury to strengthen tax policy formulation and revenue mobilization.

The partnership aligns with Kenya’s ongoing efforts to implement the National Tax Policy and the Medium-Term Revenue Strategy, both of which aim to create a more efficient, transparent, and equitable taxation system.

By leveraging ODI’s expertise in international development research, the collaboration will provide critical insights into tax policy analysis, support capacity-building programs, and enhance data-driven decision-making.

Mbadi highlighted that the MoU represents Kenya’s broader strategy of engaging international partners to modernize its tax system, boost domestic revenue collection, and promote fiscal sustainability.

The initiative also underscores the government’s commitment to reducing economic inequality by ensuring tax policies are fair and progressive.

As Britain’s leading independent think tank on development and humanitarian issues, ODI’s involvement is expected to enhance knowledge-sharing and contribute to Kenya’s long-term economic stability.

Through this partnership, Kenya seeks to build a tax system that fosters economic growth while ensuring accountability and fairness in revenue collection.
