In a major push to reshape the global supply chain for battery materials, Global Falcon Energy Materials Company has joined forces with Moroccan innovator Fluoralpha to fast-track the development of a cutting-edge pilot anode plant at Jorf Lasfar, near Casablanca.
The facility will produce coated spherical purified graphite (CSPG), a key component in lithium-ion batteries, marking a significant move toward reducing reliance on Chinese production.
"We are very pleased to welcome Fluoralpha to our consortium,” said Matthieu Bos, Falcon’s CEO, in a press release issued Tuesday. “With Fluoralpha on board, we have assembled a Tier One ecosystem in Morocco to deliver the first large-scale CSPG production facility outside of China.”
Fluoralpha, backed by INNOVX, transforms fluorosilicic acid, a by-product of fertilizer production, into ultra-pure hydrofluoric acid (AHF), a vital ingredient in purifying graphite.
Their proximity to the plant site ensures safer and more efficient operations while capitalizing on Morocco’s strategic resource advantages.
With this alliance, Morocco is poised to emerge as a global player in sustainable battery material manufacturing.
