In a bold move to champion climate resilience and economic sustainability, the European Investment Bank (EIB) has partnered with the National Bank of Ethiopia to support the country’s green transition and strengthen its financial sector.
Signed by Deputy Governor of the National Bank of Ethiopia, Solomon Desta, and EIB Representative for Ethiopia and the African Union, Leila Traore, the agreement marks a strategic step toward transforming Ethiopia’s economy into one that is both environmentally conscious and financially robust.
The EIB’s involvement is not just a financial commitment, it’s a signal of growing global confidence in Ethiopia’s development trajectory. With climate change and economic vulnerability presenting mounting challenges, the partnership aims to inject momentum into Ethiopia’s green growth efforts and build a more resilient financial infrastructure.
EU Ambassador to Ethiopia, Sofie From-Emmesberger, hailed the deal as a milestone in Ethiopia-EU cooperation. She reaffirmed the EU’s dedication to working with Ethiopia in pursuit of inclusive development and sustainable progress.
Deputy Governor Solomon Desta emphasized that the agreement will act as a catalyst for long-term cooperation, supporting both financial stability and the national green economy strategy.
