Kenyan journalists have lauded Ethiopia’s bold steps in launching a Pan-African media platform aimed at reshaping the continent’s global narrative.

The initiative, which seeks to counter negative portrayals of Africa, has been recognized as a significant move towards reclaiming the continent’s image.

Ethiopia has been at the forefront of advocating for African-owned media that tells the true African story. Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, during the 35th African Union Assembly, emphasized the need for an African Union Continental Media House to present a balanced perspective of Africa’s progress and potential.

As part of this vision, the Ethiopian News Agency has introduced “The Pulse of Africa,” a digital platform dedicated to comprehensive reporting on African issues through diverse formats.

Kenyan media professionals, including Hussein Mohamed and Ronnie Kimani from Distory Communications, recently visited the agency and witnessed firsthand the platform’s operations.

Following their visit, the journalists expressed admiration for Ethiopia’s leadership in strengthening African media and its commitment to narrating Africa’s story authentically. They highlighted that this initiative should inspire other African nations to invest in independent media platforms that reflect the continent’s true realities.

They also noted that Africa has long suffered from misrepresentation in global media, often depicted as struggling despite its vast resources and developmental strides. The absence of a strong continental media platform, they said, has contributed to these persistent misconceptions.

With Ethiopia taking the lead in addressing these challenges, the journalists called for greater collaboration among African nations. They stressed the importance of collective action in ensuring that Africa’s progress, culture, and achievements are effectively communicated to the world.
